Hyde Announces Subcommittee Chairs
New Terrorism Subcommittee Led by Rep. Gallegly

(WASHINGTON) -- U.S. Rep. Henry J. Hyde (R-IL), chairman of the House International Relations Committee, announced a reorganization of the committee on Monday, including the creation of a subcommittee to monitor world terrorism.

Hyde named U.S. Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-CA) to be chairman of the new Subcommittee on International Terrorism, Nonproliferation and Human Rights. "Mr. Gallegly brings a wealth of experience from both this committee and from his membership on the House Judiciary Committee. He is uniquely qualified to spearhead this committee’s efforts to monitor the terrorism threat around the world and how America should respond," Hyde said.

The international terrorism subcommittee replaces the Subcommittee on International Operations and Human Rights, which was abolished.

Also on Monday, Hyde named U.S. Rep. James A. Leach (R-IA), chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific; U.S. Rep. Doug Bereuter (R-NE), chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe; U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), chair of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and Central Asia; U.S. Rep. Cass Ballenger (R-NC), chairman of the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere; and U.S. Rep. Edward R. Royce, chairman of the Subcommittee on Africa.
