HYDE CONDEMNS CUBAN ARREST OF CZECH MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT

WASHINGTON (Jan. 17) - U.S. Rep. Henry Hyde (R-IL), Chairman of the House International Relations Committee, made the following statement today concerning the January 12th arrest by Cuban authorities of Czech Member of Parliament Ivan Pilip and Czech citizen Jan Bubenik:

"The arrest of a Czech member of parliament and another Czech citizen by the Cuban government simply for meeting with dissidents is appalling. This only serves to underscore the brutal and arbitrary nature of the regime in Havana. The Cuban Government should end this travesty and immediately release these two democratic leaders."
